Black Walnuts: Whole walnuts, harvested while still green, are stored in water in large open barrels to ferment in the sun. The water and the sun fermentation turns the green walnuts black. Afterward the walnuts are pickled and then packed in heavy syrup in glass jars. Pickled walnuts are easy to slice to be
added to cheese boards, venison dishes, grilled meat, salads and even as topping for ice cream.
